Raleigh copy editor to appear today on ‘Jeopardy’

A: She’s the one standing next to Jeopardy host Alex Trebek in that picture.

Q: Who is Raleigh, N.C., News & Observer features copy editor Pam Nelson?

Pam filmed an appearance on the show earlier this year. The episode — the first several, we’d all hope — airs this evening. Her colleague, Brooke Cain, writes:

Pam was inspired to go on the show by their late son Jake; Jeopardy was Jake’s favorite game show … Pam has been amazingly close-mouthed so we really don’t know how she did.

A 1976 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Pam spent 13 years as a copy editor, assistant news editor and assistant editor of the News & Observer’s state Capitol team before leaving to become managing editor of HowStuffWorks.com. She returned to the N&O in 2001 and began her grammar blog in 2005.

Rumor has it that Pam will next appear on Survivor. Given that I made up that rumor just now, though, I wouldn’t place a lot of stock in it.
