Why Home Depot needs copy editors

They need copy editors to keep them from making mistakes like this one:

Ouch.

That’s from a Home Depot in central Ohio, found last month by the author of the Sprockets Inside blog. Thanks to the author for tipping me off.

The author posted:

I told the CEO that unless his store is carrying tools for grabbing prostitutes, they have some serious changes to make.

However, the author says, the sign has now been removed. Read more about it here.

How about another one?

Here’s a college-themed “hoodie,” for sale this week at a Barnes & Noble in St. Pete, pointed out by Stephanie Hayes of the St. Petersburg Times:

South what?

The good news: Barnes & Noble apparently had enough of a sense of humor about these that they kept selling them even after the error was discovered. At a ten percent discount.

Read the story here. Thanks to Jay Anthony for the tip last night via Facebook.

You know who else needs copy editors? CNN. And college athletic department ticket offices. And road paving contractors. And restaurants. And cake decorators. And baseball jersey manufacturers. And T-shirt designers. And Time magazine. And sign painters. And cake decorators. And T-shirt designers. And baseball jersey manufacturers.
