Anybody who’s ever attended one of my slideshows over the past three or four years has heard be wax poetic over Tony Briggmin. I show a lot of pages he designed from the Bellingham (Wash.) Herald.
Less than two months ago, Tony moved from Washington to Boise Idaho, where he is now assistant sports editor for production for the Idaho Statesman.
And he’s doing terrific work. A couple of weeks ago, I gushed over an interesting page where he converted the usual college sports logos into horseracing jockey’s silks. Read all about that here.
Well, Tony’s done it again. Today, the college football GameDay page featured this huge alternative story form on who are all those folks you see milling around the sidelines during a football game?

Tony tells us:
This came together fairly late in our planning cycle.
Our sports editor, Mike Prater, had the idea of explaining the activity on the Boise State sideline awhile ago. I had an initial vision for the project and finding the right wide sideline photo was essential to making the approach work for our reporter Chadd Cripe and myself. Once we got the photo from our newly minted photo team leader Joe Jaszewski on Friday afternoon, Chadd wrote the copy blocks. Our columnist Brian Murphy was on hand to assist me in locating the things Chadd wrote about in the photo so we could properly label each.
It was a scramble, but I think it came together well and offered our readers an interesting glimpse of what goes on during game day.
