[Sarcasm mode off, now.]
Among the several announcements Gregory Osberg –President and CEO of Philadelphia Media Network Inc., owners of the Inquirer and the Daily News — made via a press release today was this bit about the tabloid Daily News:
Osberg also announced that the transformation of the Philadelphia Daily News as a “loud, irreverent, fun tabloid” under the new editorial leadership of Larry Platt will culminate with the re-launch of the New Daily News on Monday, July 25.
Platt arrived at the Daily News just a little over five months ago. And this “loud, irreverent, fun tabloid” bit implies that the Daily News wasn’t one of these until the arrival of Platt.
Granted, some of the front-page humor has sharpened a bit since Jan. 31…
… But still. It’s not like the tabloid was quiet, reverent, and boring before he came along, y’know?
You get the idea.
In fact, I’ve been a fan of the Daily News. Moreso than, say, the New York Post or New York Daily News. Let’s hope these changes are for the better.
Average daily circulation for the Daily News is 110,000.
