University of Iowa’s Evelyn Lau hired by Boston Herald

Evelyn Lau tweeted last night:

Starting my first day of work at the @bostonherald tomorrow evening. It’s totally cray cray.

A 2010 graduate of the University of Iowa, Evelyn worked as a sports talk show host for the campus radio station and assistant sports editor for the student newspaper. She served an internship with Athlete Interactive, where she created content to go on personal web sites of professional athletes.

After graduation, she moved back home to Massachusetts and worked for a while as a substitute teacher.

Disproving everything I’ve ever said to all the unemployed journalists in the U.S., Evelyn says she got this job by responding to a want ad. On Craigslist. She’ll be a night web producer and editor for the Boston Herald‘s web site, she tells us.

I’m not exactly sure what they’ll have me working on. I know during my interview, we talked about sports coverage and how usually at night, that’s what draws in a lot of hits, so he could potentially have me working on that.

I’m really excited but I’m a little nervous too. I just never thought I’d be here, working for a newspaper in Boston, especially just out of college. I’m super grateful that someone decided to take a chance on me.

Take a chance on me.” Heh.

Evelyn impressed hell out of me when I visited the University of Iowa two years ago. It’s the folks at the Boston Herald who are the lucky ones, I suspect.
