I received a brochure in the mail last week from American Express about cruise deals.
Oh, and what a brochure it is…
First of all, there’s a misspelled word in the headline. That should be “yourself.”
Secondly — and more importantly — one of the three cruise ships promoted in this brochure is the Costa Concordia. That’s the ship that sank off the coast of Italy a couple of weeks ago.
Thirdly: Check out the unfortunate phrasing of that headline again:

John Kelly of the Washington Post received the same brochure last week.
I called American Express and a representative explained that it takes between six and eight weeks from when a brochure is put into creative to when it reaches mailboxes, making it too late to pull the mailing. “Obviously that offer is not valid,†she said.
The cruise does sound nice, though. Passengers can relax in the dazzling casino, savor a gourmet spa menu, indulge in a Turkish steam bath or “just linger on a spacious teak sun deck and savor la dolce vita.â€
Don’t linger too long, though. The lifeboats are waiting.
