There’s a very cool poster page on the front of today’s Rocky Mountain Collegian of Colorado State University.
Click for a larger view.
The page commemorates a big seven-point win over nationally-ranked conference rival UNLV. Collegian visual managing editor Greg Mees wrote via Facebook last night:
With about an hour until deadline we decided to go with a poster front. I pulled the inside page back from the press for the jump and it all fell together.
The text on the front feels a little heavier than I would have liked, but overall I’m pretty happy with it! Great photo work tonight by Dylan Langille and Hunter Thompson.
That particular picture is by Dylan.
In addition, Greg had some fun with this next page as well. He wrote via Facebook:
Trying to take an inside page and make a really visually appealing package!
That’s a terrific crop on that picture by Erin Mross. But what really makes that page sing is the headline.
Presumably, this great work today has caused Greg to forget all about Wednesday’s paper. Just yesterday, he was happy with that day’s front page:
This is probably my favorite piece I’ve done so far this semester. A feature on CSU senior basketball players Will Bell and Kaipo Sabas, written by Cris Tiller and Kevin Lytle. Portrait by Kelly Keen.
Find those A1 profiles here and here. Find the paper’s web site here.
A 2009 graduate of Columbine High School, Greg Mees spent a year as designer for College Avenue magazine and then joined the Collegian as a designer in January 2010. He was promoted to chief designer that May and then to visual managing editor last year.
He’s already been named the paper’s editor-in-chief for next years. Greg expects to graduate in 2013 with a degree in TV News and Video Communications.
