I run into this all the time: When your blog is hosted by a society for copy editors and you’re pointing out an error that a copy editor might have caught, you might make typos and other errors yourself.
As you know, I do this often. It’s embarrassing. It’s why I need a copy editor.
Editor & Publisher — which, believe it or not, is still around, although it’s nowhere near the must-read it once was — has this problem today. A major sector of its target audience is newspaper editors. And the big story today is Warren Buffett‘s purchase of the MediaGeneral chain.
You see the problem, right? Compare the name in the big red headline to that in the art element:
Granted, that art element is credited to MGN Online, “your internet resource for still and animated” stock and breaking-news art. The error is presumably theirs. But still, you’d expect someone at E&P to notice.
David Sullivan of the Philadelphia Inquirer did. We thank him for the tip.
